HOURS OF WORK

3:00 p.m to 11:30 p.m  

SUMMARY

 1.  Uses a variety of skills to install, repair, and maintain equipment and physical structure within the school district.  The duties involve repairing kitchen equipment, custodial equipment, athletic equipment, building partitions, repairing windows and doors, replacing electrical switches, painting walls, ceilings, floors, etc., laying block and brick, installing tiles, clearing clogged drains and replacing plumbing, repairing heating and air conditioning equipment, rewiring spaces and other items as directed. 

 

2.  Utility Maintenance Workers have shall have skills in several construction and mechanical crafts such as carpentry, electrical installation and repair, plumbing, painting, roofing, and mechanics.

 

3.  Utility Maintenance Workers use tools ranging from common hand and power tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills and wrenches to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.

 

4.  Will be required to read and understand diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals and schematic diagrams.  Responsible for ordering parts, supplies and equipment from industrial catalogs and suppliers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and Experience:  High School diploma or equivalent.  Graduation from an accredited trade school in a related field is desirable and may substitute for up to two years of experience.  Five (5) years experience in one or more of the following building maintenance trades:  HVAC, plumbing, electrical and carpentry.

 

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in or from standardized situations.

 

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure; to perform the four operations with like or common decimal fractions; to compute ratio and proportion, and percentage; to calculate surfaces, volume, weights, and measures.

 

Must have normal or corrected vision, good hearing, full use of both arms, hands and legs.  Must be able to stand for long periods of time, move and lift heavy objects, work in awkward positions and in tight quarters, and be in good overall physical condition.

 

Must possess a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.
